Welcome to Counseling Services for Wellbeing. I am joining you all the way from the Midwest as I am located in the Show-Me State of Missouri and will be offering telemedicine for children and adolescents. I was born and raised in the Springfield, MO area. I am a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who specializes in the needs of pediatrics (6 years of age) to adolescents (17 years of age). My role is to assess the mental and emotional wellbeing and to develop a treatment plan that will improve his or her quality of life. Before I was a PMHNP, I worked on an inpatient psychiatric unit as a board-certified psychiatric nurse and served individuals whom were struggling and many were at their lowest points in their life. In my free time I am entertained by my 4 fur children and I enjoy being outside in the sunshine soaking up vitamin D.
As a Child and Adolescent PMHNP, my philosophy is to meet my patients where they are and to provide care that is patient centered. We look at the whole picture as many aspects in life affect our mental and emotional wellbeing. It is imperative that we look at all of the pieces of one’s life in efforts to create a treatment plan that is attainable, beneficial, and agreed upon. In addition, information will be gathered from the patient and the family, as well as the values of the individual/family will be respected during this process. I approach my patients in a relaxed and comforting manner in a judgement free zone as building a relationship with one another is important to be able to discuss information that may be challenging. In addition, the patient will be heard and decisions will be had jointly, between myself and those I treat. This will lead to care that is tailored to meet the needs and generate a positive outcome. The treatment plan that we create as a team may include non-pharmacological and pharmacological methods. In my practice, I am conservative with pharmacological treatments and I prescribed based off of FDA recommendations. I also develop my treatment plan based off of evidence-based practice as this requires the treatment to have been proven to be effective. As I always tell my patients, we are on a bus together going to a beautiful place. It is my job to get us there, but I have to know the directions, which come from you, so that I can select the right route that we need to take. If I could say anything about my past experiences it is this, we are all struggling in one way or another, it just may be unknown to those around us and it may be in different ways. However, we are all worthy of love, happiness, and belonging. So, always be kind and see others as they are doing the best that they possibly can.
